DSS DJ and your PC resources

DSS DJ is not a common player like Winamp. It is a DJ mixing software for live performances. It requires more PC resources than other simple mp3 players, because it's making a lots of tasks at the same time that have instant results.
For better performances you have to close all existing applications while running DSS DJ and use a computer with at least an 800 MHz processor and 128 Mb RAM.
The lack of PC performance is shown by: sound skipping or stoping, stutter, pops, clicks, beat display stop, unsynchronized sound with beat display.

What about latency ?

The delay between a requested command, (like cue, play, bend, eq change, etc.) and the moment when the soundcard reacts on it is called latency.
Lower latencies are better for live performances but if you set the latency too low you can get sound skipping or stoping. On the other hand if you set it too high then you will hear the late sound effect of your actions. So, you have to decide the right latency value for your PC.

A soundcard has one or more drivers, like: DirectSound, MME WaveOut, ASIO.
Here are the latencies for them:
  • DirectSound : 20 - 130 ms(miliseconds)
  • MME WaveOut : 50 - 180 ms
  • ASIO : 3 - 40 ms

Soundcard drivers

If you want best soundcard performance, you have to download the latest drivers.
A soundcard drivers can use only one soundcard. It can not use 2 equal soundcards installed in your PC. That's why you have to use 2 soundcards made by different manufacturers (e.g. Soundblaster Creative + Yamaha).
